Triund Trek has situated in the Kangra District, Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh. It is an alpine meadow on top of a mountain. It offers spectacular views of the Dhauladhar mountain range and the Kangra Valley. The Triund Trek is considered one of the easiest treks in the Himalayas. The walk has gained immense popularity quickly for being an easy trek.

If you like trekking and till now you have yet to complete a single trek on the mountains, you can start your trekking from the Trek of Triund. 

Although the Triund Trek is considered suitable for beginner trekkers, the Trek does not disappoint even an experienced trekker. Most of the Trek is easygoing. Throughout the tour, you pass through vast and dense forests of Oak, Pine and Deodar. Apart from lush forests, you also get unforgettable views of the Dhauladhar mountain range and the Kangra Valley.

What is the height of Trek?

The Triund Trek is situated at the foothills of the Dhauladhar mountain range and has an altitude of 2828 m (9278 ft) above sea level. It's a high-altitude track, and most of the part of this track is uphill. The last 2 km were quite challenging, as there has a steep climb from Snowline Cafe.

These parameters define altitude (height)-

High Altitude: 8000 to 12000 ft (2438 to 3658 m)

Very High Altitude: 12000 to 18000 ft (3658 to 5487 m)

Extremely High Altitude: Above 18000 feet (above 5500 meters)

Most people can go up to 8000 ft (2438 m) without much trouble. 

How long is the trek?

Triund Trek from Dharamkot is quite an adventure. The walk has about 7 kilometres, and it took us around 3 to 6 hours to reach the camping site. However, if you are new to trekking and have yet to get used to the hilly routes, you may need to rest along the way, making the Trek take around 4 to 5 hours. Regardless of the time it takes, the views are breathtaking.

Popular Ways to Reach the Height of Trek

Mcleodganj to Triund Trek is a popular way to the Trek with a fantastic experience. The walk starts at Mcleodganj and is about 9 km long. However, some people cringe at Dharamkot, only 2 km from Mcleodganj. The whole walk took about 5 hours to complete.

Yes, of course. Triund Trek has completed in 1 day. Trek lovers can start early in the morning so that they can reach up by afternoon, enjoy the beauty and nature of the place, and start back in the evening before the sun sets.

After reaching Triund Trek in the evening, you can enjoy the whole night camping on the peak, and then after breakfast the next day, you can start the journey back to Mcleodganj or Dharamkot from Triund Trek.

The Triund Trek started from both Mcleodganj and Dharamkot. The distance from Mcleodganj to Triund is approximately 09 km, and from Dharamkot to Triund Trek is 07 km. For all the trekkers who start their journey from Mcleodganj to Triund, the first checkpoint Bhagsunag Waterfall comes.

The first checkpoint for the trekkers who start their journey from Dharamkot to Triund is the Galu Devi Temple. To complete the Triund trek quickly, you can go to Dharamkot by taxi from Mcleodganj.

Best time for the trek

The best season for the Triund Trek is from March to December. Trekking here should not be done during the monsoon season as the path becomes slippery. Also, at this time, there is very heavy snowfall on Triund. 

Triund Trek has explored at any time of the year regarding the best season. May to June and late September to November are pleasant during that time.

There is heavy snowfall during winters, due to which the Trek becomes very difficult for new trekkers. 

Temperature

In the summer, the temperature of Triund Trek remains around 25-30 degrees during the daytime, and the average night temperature is about 8-10 degrees. In the winter season, the temperature here becomes very low. The chances of heavy snowfall also increase, so before starting the trip to Triund Trek in the winter season, you should know about the weather here. Because due to heavy snowfall, the road leading to Triund Trek is often closed.

Is the  Trek safe during the monsoon/rainy season? 

Although the Triund trek is also safe during monsoon, the last 2 km can be rocky and slippery. It is better not to go during the rainy season and in winter. If you go for a trek this season, staying at a dhaba for some time would be better during the rain.

Trek Tips

If you are planning to trek to Triund, then there are a few tips that you must follow.

1. It has essential to keep warm clothes with you in winter.

2. Quite cold at night during summer, so be sure to carry some warmers and a small, light bag with you.

3. During the Trek, it also has an excellent idea to keep snacks and a water bottle with you.

4. Bring your tent with you if you plan to camp at night. If you are uncomfortable carrying a tent to the top, you can arrange a top tent from an adventure agency for 500-600 rupees per night.

5. Adventure agencies offer packages for the Trek, including a tent, dinner, and breakfast for around Rs.1000/- per person.

How To Reach

To reach Triund Trek, you'll first need to make your way to Mcleodganj. Fortunately, Mcleodganj is easily accessible from the capital of India, Delhi, via all effective forms of transportation. You can reach Mcleodganj by air, rail and bus. 

First Route

The first route takes you through Bhagsunag Temple and Bhagsunag Waterfall in Mcleodganj. This route is approximately 9 kilometres long and will lead you straight to Triund Trek  via Bhagsunag waterfall. 

Second Route

The second route, which is also quite popular, starts from Dharamkot, just 2 kilometres from Mcleodganj. This route takes you to Trek via Galu Devi Temple and is only 7 kilometres long. While most trekkers prefer to start their journey to Triund Trek from Mcleodganj, some opt to go to Dharamkot by private vehicle or taxi to reduce the distance of their Trek.
