Panchsagar - Varahi Shakti Peeth Temple

Panch Sagar Shakthi Peeth has located in Uttar Pradesh, near Varanasi. It had believed that when Lord Shankar was carrying the body of Sati Maa, Lord Vishnu dismembered her body with his Chakra for the world's welfare, and her body parts fell at 51 places which later became Shakti Peetha. One of them is the place of Varahi Devi. Here Goddess Sati worshipped as Varahi, and Lord Shiva worshipped as Maharudra.

It has believed that the Mother's lower jaw had fallen here. Here two teeth of Maa Sati had fallen, where even today, there are two holes, the depth of which has not been measured to date. There is such a legend that when someone tried to do this years ago, he lost his power to see.

Legend

According to the Padma Purana, there were two gatekeepers named Jai and Vijay in the Vaikuntha abode of God. Once, Sankadi Yogishwar went to Baikunth Dham with the desire to see Lord Vishnu along with Shri Lakshmi. Mahabali Jai and Vijay behaved indecently with him by stopping him midway. Due to this, Sankadi cursed them - 'You two gatekeepers, leaving this abode of God, go to Bhulok and be born in the form of demons.'

As a result of the curse, sage Kashyapa and his wife Diti had two mighty sons named Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Both were demonic, and they had achieved immense powers by pleasing Lord Brahma by doing severe penance. Hiranyaksha started spreading terror all around on the strength of his powers, no matter how big his body could be. He uprooted this earth with mountains, oceans, islands and all living beings with his thousands of arms and hid it in the abyss by keeping it on his head. Due to the terror of Hiranyaksha, all the deities and the inhabitants of the earth cried out. The demon also conquered the world of the lord of heaven, Indra and challenged the water god Varun Dev to fight.

After listening to Hiranyaksh, Varundev said - 'There is no one more powerful than Lord Narayan in this world. If you want to prove your superiority, then tell by defeating Lord Vishnu. Hiranyaksha got angry after hearing this and started running here and there in search of Shri Hari. That's why Narad Muni told him that Shri Hari had taken the incarnation of Varah from the nostrils of Brahmaji. His body is as hard as a blue-coloured mountain, and his body has stiff hair and sharp hooves like arrows. Terrible light is coming out of the eyes. Hearing this, Hiranyaksha went to the abyss near Shri Vishnu. He saw a giant boar carrying the earth in its teeth. The demon challenged Lord Varah and attacked him with his mace. After a long fierce battle between the two, Vishnu killed that evil demon with the Sudarshan Chakra. After this, Lord Varah freed the three worlds from fear by bringing the earth out of the abyss as before and setting it again on Sheshnag. After killing the demon Hirnaksh, Lord Meditated here for Maa Varahi. Due to this, Lord Vishnu is known as the incarnation of the goddess Varahi.

Varahi Devi is bathed for 25 minutes as soon as the temple opens. Then at 5 o'clock, the aarti starts. Mata is believed to like classical music very much, so her aarti is performed with classical music only. Her aarti lasts for about one and a half hours.
